Track Social Media Using Google Analytics & WebmasterTools

Google and its web analytics tool known as “Google Analytics” as well as Google Webmaster Tools are continously becoming more advanced by adding more and more features to provide better user experience.

Now again both are enriched with tools to track social media more effectively. Now you can utilize them to track the impact of tweets, facebook likes, +1s & a lot more.

If you logged in to your Google Webmaster Tools account you will see that there’s a “+1 Metrics” section.”+1 Matrics” provides reports on the impact of the +1 Button on search. The new analytics tracks the amount of +1s on a given page and show how +1s affect your website’s clickthrough rate (CTR).

The new Activity Report and an Audience Report also added to Google Webmaster Tools. The Activity Report shows the number of +1s your website or webpages have received as well as the Audience report shows the geographic and demographic data about website visitors who have clicked on Google’s +1 button for your website pages.

Google has also introduced a very useful new Social Plugin Tracking tool for Google Analytics. This new social plugin tool can be utilise to compare the impact of various types of social media activities on your website. Along with +1s, it also tracks Twitter tweets, Facebook Likes, Facebook shares etc.

The new Social Plugin Tracking Tool generates three types of reports:

1. Social Engagement- It tracks behavioral changes (time spent on website, pageviews,bounce-rate, etc.) for visits from social plugins.
2. Social Actions- It tracks the number of social media activities users take on your site.
3. Social Pages.- It is used to compare the number of social media activities received on your website.

Its worthful to track social media as social media sites drive a lot of the website traffic.

Social media tracking from Google, just came after launch of Google’s +1 so, we can also say its Google strategy to show the importance of its +1 along with other social media sites. However, these new features from Google provide a great deal of more details and the impact of social media activites to the website owners on their websites.

How To Optimize A Dynamic Website

Internet technologies and e-commerce are advanced now and still developing day by day. As a result people prefer to have a dynamic website for their businesses or their online presence. So for some webmasters or new search engine optimizers who have experience in doing SEO for a simple static websites becomes necessary to know also about how to optimize a Dynamic Website?

For successful search engine optimization (SEO) of a dynamic website it is require to have some complex search engine technology and methods that are substantially different and much more sophisticated than the latest SEO techniques used for ordinary, more conventional "static" web sites.

In this article you can find some useful and important tips for how to optimize a dynamic website but first I would like to describe about what are Dynamic Websites?

Introduction to Dynamic Websites:
Now days often business websites are dynamic means that the web pages are dynamically built pages that allow user interaction and online shopping cart is an example for that.

Dynamic websites are websites whose pages are generated on the fly and usually built with a programming language such as ASP, PHP or JAVA. Often Dynamic sites are database-driven means that the site content is stored in a database and the dynamic code "pulls" the content from a database.

Problems in indexing Dynamic URLs:

It is really difficult to get dynamic web sites properly indexed in the major search engines unless they are professionally optimized. Even most search engines claim that they now index the majority of dynamic web sites but still only in some cases and it is limited to a number of URLs.

One of the most important reason behind having problem with dynamic sites to get indexed by major search engines is that Search engines often consider a dynamic URL as a set of infinite number of links.

Now days often dynamic web pages are created "on the fly" with various technologies such as ASP (Active Server Pages), Cold Fusion technology, JSP (Java Server Pages) and so on. Now all these pages are user friendly and works very will for real users actually visiting the web site, but they usually create a mess with most search engine spiders.

The main reason behind it is because all dynamic pages do not even exist until a user actually goes through a query or variable that generates the pages. Often search engine spiders are not programmed to select or choose any of query or variables. In this way, those dynamic pages do not get generated and that is why do not get to be indexed.

One of the main difficulties with search engine spiders are that they cannot read and are not trained to understand any of the dynamic databases of URLs which either contain a query string delimited by a question mark or any other database characters (#&*!%) that refers to as "spider traps." Once a search engine spider falls into any of those traps, it usually spells bad news for that dynamic web site.

As a direct consequence that most search crawlers have significant problems "reading" any level into a typical dynamic database, most of these search engine spiders have been programmed to initially detect and then ignore most dynamic URLs.

How to optimize a dynamic website to get it indexed by major search engines:

1. Using URL Rewriting Tools or Softwares - There are some URL Rewriting Tools and software available on the web that converts a dynamic URL to Static URLs. So it is better to use these tools to convert a dynamic URL of your site to Static URL.

For an example- Exception Digital Enterprise Solutions offers software that helps to change the dynamic URLs to static ones.

In this way, changing a dynamic URL to static one helps it to get easily indexed by search engines.

2. Using CGI/Perl Scripts - Using CGI/Perl scripts is one of the easiest ways to get your dynamic sites indexed by search engines. Path_Info or Script_Name is a variable in a dynamic application that contains the complete URL address.

In order to correct this problem, it is needed to write a script that will pull all the information before the query string and set the rest of the information equal to a variable.

When you are using CGI/Perl scripts, the query part of the dynamic URL is assigned a variable. So, in the above example "?id=586" is assigned a variable, say "X".
The dynamic URL www.xyz.com/abcproduct.asp?id=586

will change to- www.xyz.com/productname/A

through CGI/Perl scripts that can be easily indexed by the search engines.

3. Managing Web Servers-

Apache Server - Apache has a rewrite module that enables you to turn URLs containing query strings into URLs that search engines can index. This module however, isn't installed with Apache software by default, so you need to check with your web hosting company for installation.

ColdFusion - It is needed to reconfigure ColdFusion on your server so that the "?" in a query string is replaced with a '/' and pass the value to the URL.

4. Static Page linked dynamic Pages - Creating a Static Page that linked to an array of dynamic Pages becomes very effective especially in case you are the owner of a small online store. Initially just create a static page linking to all your dynamic pages. And optimize this static page for higher search engine rankings.

Make sure to include a link title for all the product categories, place appropriate "alt" tag for the product images along with product description containing highly popular keywords relevant to your business. Submit this static page to various major search engines including all the dynamic pages as per the guidelines for search engine submission.

In this way if you are going to optimize a dynamic website then all above SEO tips can help you to successfully optimize your dynamic website and your site will get indexed by major search engines without facing any problem and you have a great chance to take your site among top ranks on major search engines. Useful Tips to Counter Web Spam-Matt Cutts

It is not a secret for now that spammming pollutes Web sites as well as inboxes of email users. It is a hot topic in many SEO Forums among Web site owners and webmasters and they have taken many steps and actions to combat it that sometimes work an sometimes not.

According to post at news.com you can find Google's pointers on countering Web spam from Google's Matt Cutts head of Google's Webspam team and an engineer who's been working on the problem for eight years.

During a speech at the Web 2.0 Expo Matt Cutts expalained about countering Web spam as-
"Spammers are human," Cutts said. "You have the power to raise their blood pressure. Make them spend more time and effort...If spammer gets frustrated, he's more likely to look for someone easier."
How? Forthwith, some tips for those who manage their own or others' Web sites.

Use captcha systems to make sure real people, not bots, are commenting on your site. He uses a simple math puzzle--what's 2 + 2?--but he also likes KittenAuth, which makes people identify kitten photos.

One blogger merely requires people to type the word "orange" into a field. "The vast majority of bots will never do that," Cutts said.

Reconfigure software settings after you've installed it. A little modification of various settings will throw bots off the scent. "If you can off the beaten path, away from default software installations, you'll save yourself a ton of grief," he said.

Employ systems that rank people by trust and reputation. For example, eBay shows how long a person has been a member and how satisfied others are with transactions with that person.

Don't be afraid of legitimate purveyors of search-engine optimization services. "SEO is not spam. Google does not hate SEO," Cutts said. "There are plenty of white-hat SEO (companies) who can help you out."

Registering your Web site at Google's Webmaster Central site can help find bogus search-engine optimization tricks others may use on your site, such as keywords written in white text on white backgrounds, he added.

Google Owns a Search Engine Optimisation Company

If you own or work with a search engine optimization company, or even if you're just hoping to better your search engine placement, then you are probably aware of the recent acquisition frenzy that took hold among the major search engines. Google paid $3.1 billion for DoubleClick, Microsoft paid $6 billion for Aquantive, and Yahoo paid $680 million for the 80 percent of Right Media that it did not already own and another $300 million for BlueLithium. The companies purchased are all intended to help widen the advertising range of each of the engines in question, and to take advantage of increasingly sophisticated behavioral-based ad-serving technologies that the acquired companies owned.

What many people failed to realize was that when Google purchased DoubleClick, it now was also the owner of a very large search engine optimization company called Performics, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of DoubleClick.

This fact is of course raising some eyebrows in the industry. Google has consistently maintained that there is no way that people can pay for better search engine placement in the organic index, a stance that the company still claims applies despite this recent purchase. In fact, a portion of Google's published guidelines about SEO says, "While Google doesn't have relationships with any SEOs and doesn't offer recommendations..." In another portion, Google says "While Google never sells better ranking in our search results..." However, anyone who hires search engine optimization company Performics is of course now paying Google for better search engine placement. It seems like a pretty black and white issue, but Google would obviously prefer that it was kept delightfully blurry.

Matt Cutts Confirms Google PageRank Update

Most of people were looking for page rank updation by Google since last week of July this year. This was obvious because generally Google PR updation takes place after every 3-4 months and the last PR update held in April of this month.

In the first week of August people have seen a little fluctuation in PR and number of backlinks of their sites in some places. But this fluctuation was just happened with fewer sites so people were confused about that PR updation has been completed or still have to complete.

Recently last week in October, people again have seen a great fluctuation in PR of their sites and also in their number of backlinks and hope that PR updation has been finished for this time now. and yes people were right as Matt Cutts confirmed Page Rank Update for this time in an email to Search Engine Journal on 29th October.

Matt Cutts emailed Search Engine Journal last night to let us know that in fact, the partial Google ‘Toolbar’ PageRank update which happened last week was a result of Google’s campaign against paid linking and advertisement links which influence PageRank.

TOP 10 COMMON SEO MISTAKES

Webmasters spend a lot of time and efforts on optimizing a website. They try different strategies to get higher search engine rankings for their website, but some of them fail to get desired results just because of some mistakes. In this article I have listed some common mistakes which should be avoided while optimizing a website as they may have adverse effect on your Search engine rankings:

1. Keyword Stuffing: Putting the same keyword again and again or using hundred different spellings or tenses of the same keywords in your keyword meta tag is known as keyword stuffing and considered as spam by search engines. You must avoid it as it may harm your search engine rankings.

2. Duplicate Content: Make sure to have some unique and informative content for users on all web pages, it must be related to your business. Having the same content on your different pages of website must be avoided as it may have an adverse effect on your search engine rankings.

3. ALT Tags: Do not forget to add ALT tag while using images in your website. You can use your targeted keywords also in ALT tags. It makes your website accessible for search engine spiders.

4. Framesets: Avoid using framesets as frames-based pages behave differently from standard Web pages, affecting essential Web functions like printing and navigation. search engines cannot index framesets.

5. Navigation and internal linking: Proper navigation and internal linking is also matters a lot. Navigation menu should be easily accessible by users. Make sure that the anchor text linking to pages within your own website is relevant to the target page.

6. Anchor Text of Inbound links: Having a lot of inbound links is not enough but the anchor text pointing to these links is also very important. The anchor text should be targeted to your main keywords and the web page they point to should have those keywords.

7. Redirects: Redirect is used to re-route users from one URL to another and search engines consider it as you are trying to trick them. You must avoid it, if necessary then use only ‘301 redirect’ which is the safest method to redirect.

8. Cloaking: Cloaking is a technique used by some webmasters to display different pages to the search engine spiders than the ones normal visitors see. You should always avoid any form of cloaking as it strongly forbidden by most major search engines now.

9. Over Optimisation: Over optimization shows that your site has been designed for search engines and not for users. It may drop your search engine rankings as search engines are now able to detect over optimized sites so you must avoid over optimization.

10. Impatience: Search engine optimization requires a lot of patience. You must wait for few months for results after optimizing your website. Have a little patience and you will get your desired results if you properly optimized your website using ethical SEO techniques.

About Google’s Supplemental Index :How to avoid it?

After completing a website the next step is to submit it to major search engines like google to be indexed. If you have created a well designed website by using ethical SEO methods then after a little time most of your web pages are indexed by google but still sometimes in search results or while checking your indexed pages using:

site: www.mydomain.com

You see that some of your pages shown written supplemental results at right side of the URL of that particular page, means that pages are in supplemental index of google and has not been in Google’s main index.

Supplemental result pages usually show up in the search index after the normal search results.

It makes a lot of confusion among website owners and they think what’s wrong with their web pages and why these particular pages are not in google’s main index. Even few webmaster think that perhaps these pages are banned or penalized by google and they don’t know what to do to correct it?

Basically google have two types of index, one is main index and other is known as supplemental index. When you submit or add your website to google, it sends googlebot to index your web pages. Googlebot usually index all webpages of your website and arrange them into Main Index or Supplemental Index based on their importance. So do not think that your webpages are banned or penalized by google if they are showing in supplemental results.

Google’s Adam Lasnik has also stated that when your site has pages in a supplemental index, it does not indicate that your site has been penalized. Even though this is probably correct, the effects are the same as being penalized.

Below are some important tips to get it out of supplemental index:

1. Add Unique Content: Content is a key area of Search Engine Optimization. Keep in mind to add only unique content on each page. Eliminate the duplicate content from your webpages, if you have as pages with duplicate content are main cause to land in the supplemental index.

2. Add unique meta tags: Add unique meta data for each page on your website. Always make sure to have unique title tags, description tags, keyword tags, etc.

3. Improve website architecture and internal linking: If your pages have complex navigation than improve it by making it easier to understand to googlebot as well as user. Add a sitemap and link it to all of your webpages. Be sure to link to the sitemap from your homepage so that googlebot can find it all links easily.

4. Add some more quality links: Try to get some more quality links for your pages as link popularity is all about trust now days. Just a few quality links from higher Page rank, a little older and already ranked domains may help a lot in convincing google a newer website deserve to be trusted.

5. Have a little patience: If you have checked and solve the problem and everything is all right then still it may take a while for many of the supplemental to go away. Just have a little patience and most probably your all webpages will be no more in supplemental index.

I think above tips will be help you to understand about google’s supplemental indexing. If you have any comments or suggestions feel free to share with me….at Latest SEO Tips and Strategies

Top 5 Tips to avoid Google Ban

It is common problem among website owners that sometimes their website dropped from Google index and they do not find their website entering the target keywords in the search box . The reason is simple, that website doesn’t follow ethical SEO Tips for optimizing website for Google. It happened to one of my friend’s sites in past. Through that experience I learned a lot about Google’s algorithm of indexing or ranking a website and giving it higher priority for targeted keywords. Like all if you want to avoid google ban for your site than you must follow the tips given below:

1. Make your site Accessible. This means that your site must have very good uptime. Always use reliable hosting service with good uptime (no less than 99%) and fast response time. Also ad a Robots.txt file in your root url. Your website may be drod by google SERPs if Googlebot comes to your site and cannot access it.

  1. Add only unique and relevant content to your website. Add only unique content to your website. It must be informative and interesting to your visitors and relevant to your website theme. Write content for real humans and not for search engines. If you add a duplicate content on your site, copied from somewhere else, there will be more chances to be excluded from Google’s index.
  2. Avoid spam to promote your website. Avoid spam as this mistake may causes of ban your website from Google index. In this way never use doorways, hidden text, auto-generated page, keyword stuffing, cloaking or any other type of unethical techniques.
  3. Building link popularity for your website. Quality matters a lot and not every inbound link is always good. Take care of websites linking to you. Avoid to participate in link farms or FFA pages. Try to get links from related theme websites only. Avoid spamming forums, guest books, blogs or comments. Outgoing links are also very important. Pay attention on what sites do you link from your website. Avoid link to sites that use spam techniques, because this may harm your site and your site may be banned from Google.
  4. Add A Sitemap. Provide a way for Googlebot to index the whole pages of your website. Create sitemap and link it to all pages of your website as sitemap helps Googlebot to easily access your all web pages. If you are using JavaScript or Flash links - duplicate them with plain text.

I think above tips will be useful to you all and by using these tips your site will never be banned from google....if you have any suggestion or comment fell free to share with me.....

Google ranking tips from a Google’s Matt Cutts

Last week, Google's Matt Cutts had a Q&A on the SearchMarketingExpo in Seattle. Here's a summary of the most important statements:

Paid links:

Google considers buying links to be outside of their guidelines and they might take strong actions against that in the future. Matt Cutts indicated that "Google might take action" if webmasters buy links anyway.

Outbound links:

Matt Cutts said that links to other websites are good for users, and therefore good for search engines.

The impact of spammy domains that are owned by the same person:

Matt Cutts indicated that a webmaster who owns many spammy websites might get trouble with his other websites.

Google's supplemental index:

Pages in Google's supplemental results are parsed differently than pages in the regular index. Pages from the supplemental results can get into the main index. According to Matt Cutts, phrase relationships are handled a bit differently for supplemental pages. He didn't reveal details.

Webmasters shouldn't be worried if they have pages in the supplemental index. Matt Cutts has hundreds of his own pages in the supplemental index.

Catalog pages and online store search result pages:

Google tries to avoid online store result pages in its own result pages. If an online store search result page looks like search results that are available anywhere else, then Google doesn't like the page. It's much better if it has unique content.
Category pages in online shops work better according to Matt Cutts. However, a product should only be listed in the best-applicable category instead of being listed in 30 different locations.

Effective Ways to Promote Your Website For Free Online

After creating a website, promotion of the website is obviously the next step. Here I am going to
suggest some points by that you can effectively promote your website online free of cost totally free.

1. Write Articles or Free reports for other webmasters to publish.

Another effective way to promote your website is to write articles or free reports for ezine publishers and webmasters to use. If you write good content, your articles will be published and many readers who like your article will go on to visit your website. You can also write simple research based articles and allow others to publish these freely on their websites. The traffic from these free articles will come from your byline. The ‘byline’ is the short paragraph that goes at the bottom of each article and describes who the author is and what they do. The good thing about writing this type of content is that it establishes you as the expert and therefore increases the chances of people visiting your website and signing up for whatever you’re offering.

2. Generate Targeted Traffic from Online Discussion Forums.

Online discussion forums provide an excellent way to promote your website without paying any money. Nowadays, you don’t even have to lurk around before you begin to post. Just browse the messages and you can start posting. There are basically three different ways to participate. You can ask questions, respond to requests for help or just post any useful information that fits with the general topic of that discussion forum. To promote your site in online discussion forums, all you have to do is enter your website address or ad in your signature line at the bottom of each message. Every time you post or respond to questions your ad will be displayed. If you post good content, people who read your threads will also check out your website. This is an excellent way to drive targeted traffic to your website at no cost to you. You can take this type of site promotion a step further by identifying the active members in each forum and contacting them for joint venture arrangements.

3. Do Joint Ventures with List owners and Webmasters.

If done correctly, joint venture marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote a product or service. A Joint venture can take many forms but it’s generally an agreement for some kind of partnership between one or more parties working together to their mutual benefit. It allows you to leverage highly targeted lists or traffic with no risk. Joint ventures are excellent for new product or service announcements because they allow you to reach a wide customer base very quickly.

4. Exchange Links with Other Webmasters.

This is another effective strategy for generating targeted traffic to your website for free. It involves contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. All you have to do is locate websites that are related to yours but that are not in direct competition and contact the webmaster to swap links. There are various free ebooks and articles available online on this topic.

5. Leverage the power of your email Signature.

One of the quickest and effective ways to start driving traffic to your website at no extra cost is to add your ad or website address to your email signature. This way, every time you send an email, you’ll be advertising your website. You can take this a step further by asking your friends and associates to put your website address in their email signature. Most people don’t use their email signature facility in their email program so you can easily get 10 or more people to agree to do this. If you and your 10 friends each send out 10 emails per day, that’s 110 exposures of your ad every day without any extra effort on your part.

I think above points will be useful for you. Please feel free to share your comments....

WEB PAGE ELEMENTS : lead to high Google rankings?

The German company Sistrix analyzed the web page elements of top ranked pages in Google to find out which elements lead to high Google rankings. They analyzed 10,000 random keywords, and for every keyword, they analyzed the top 100 Google search results.

Recently Sistrix analyzed the influence of the following web page elements: web page title, web page body, headline tags, bold and strong tags, image file names, images alt text, domain name, path, parameters, file size, inbound links and Page Rank.

As per analysis following web page elements lead to high Google rankings?

  • Keywords in the title tag seem to be important for high rankings on Google. It is also important that the targeted keywords are mentioned in the body tag, although the title tag seems to be more important.
  • Keywords in H2-H6 headline tags seem to have an influence on the rankings while keywords in H1 headline tags don't seem to have an effect.
  • Using keywords in bold or strong tags seems to have a slight effect on the top rankings. Web pages that used the keywords in image file names often had higher rankings. The same seems to be true for keywords in image alt attributes.
  • Websites that use the targeted keyword in the domain name often had high rankings. It might be that these sites get many inbound links with the domain name as the link text.
  • Keywords in the file path don't seem to have a positive effect on the Google rankings of the analyzed web sites. Web pages that use very few parameters in the URL (?id=123, etc.) or no parameters at all tend to get higher rankings than URLs that contain many parameters.
  • The file size doesn't seem to influence the ranking of a web page on Google although smaller sites tend to have slightly higher rankings.
  • It's no surprise that the number of inbound links and the PageRank had a large influence on the page rankings on Google. The top result on Google has usually about four times as many links as result number 11.

Important Factors To Consider About Search Engine Spiders/ Robots

What does Search Engines See on your website

Search Engine Optimization refers to the process involved in making improvements and changes to webpages so that they conform to the SEARCH CRITERIA utilized by search engines to rank and position listings. It is one of the most effective website promotion (Levels of Search Engine Promotion) techniques. Understanding the basic structure of how search engines index and retrieve documents is paramount to Search Engine Optimization success.

Important Factors To Consider About Search Engine Spiders/ Robots

'Spiders' are used by search engines to locate, index, rank, and list their findings. Here's a few things to keep in mind about them:

Most indexing spiders can only read text

Depending on the format, they have great difficulty with dynamic, asp, Cold Fusion, Flash, multiple redirects, tables and code such as Java Script. If it's not text based or they can't access the text, spiders won't see it

They determine ranking based on where you place your prime "keyword phrases", i.e. the terms used to conduct a search

They take into consideration criteria such as keyword frequency, prominence, weight and proximity, plus keyword placement within the HTML

They like "content rich" or thematic text (sufficient enough to support the primary keyword phrase) about your products/ services and use this to determine how relevant the page is to a searcher's request

Search Engine Friendly Websites

Search Engine Optimization involves making websites friendly to 'what the spiders see.' There are many factors to consider when optimizing a website, some of which are:

Head, title, and meta tags (include descriptions, keywords, and copyright info)

Incorporating body text that supports targeted keywords

Converting dynamic web pages (asp, jsp) to allow for reading by search engine robots/ spiders

Reducing source code without compromising website functionality

Improving/ fixing html code, and broken links and tags

Ensuring sufficient keyword concentration and placement on a page

Rewriting or copywriting to ensure the content supports the keyword phrases

Other variables include when and where customers/ visitors should enter your website and what is the best way to present them with the information they seek .

Search Engine Optimization is a very important component of Internet Marketing and is instrumental in the success of a website. Make sure that you find experienced Website Promotion/ Search Engine Optimization professionals to do the work for you. Their knowledge and understanding should be able to get into the top-20 rankings with the major search engines.

Pros and Cons of SEO & PPC

Among a lot of people there's always different opinion to promote or markt their online business. Often people go for PPC because they want early results to get but some believe on SEO however it requires lot of patience and hard work.

SEO and PPC both have their own benefits.

Here we discuss about what are the similarities, advantages and drawbacks or you can say "PROS and CONS" of Search Engine Optimization(SEO) and Pay Per Click(PPC) advertising..

SIMILARITY: PPC and SEO

Both SEO and PPC provide targeted and motivated visitors… people who are actively searching for products or services you offer.
Both help to maximize a website’s exposure on the Internet. Also Enhance corporate sales and marketing efforts… leading to improved profits.

Both are good and effective for brand awareness, revenue generation and lead prospecting.

Both are capable enough to turn a website from being a business expense to a business asset.

In their simplest and purest forms; SEO is about optimizing and lucking into rankings… PPC is about controlling and paying for rankings

PROS & CONS: SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION(SEO)

SEO Pros:

Traffic through organic search engine results is almost free if the up-front work has been done.
Long-term costs can be lower than PPC.

After optimizing your website you can use your money for different things and the optimized site will still run.

Good ROI and is relatively inexpensive when compared to other forms of advertising… both online and offline.

A larger number of visitors and search result clickers is not a problem.

People trust SEO rankings more than PPC rankings… more than twice as many people will click on an organic listing than a PPC listing.

SEO Cons:

Not guaranteed results… be very wary of hardly any company that guarantees top rankings.

Time consuming, higher start-up costs and longer timeframe… approx. 3-6 months to start seeing results.

Rankings are not stable… top rankings can come and go based on various of factors that are beyond your control.

Requires on-going maintenance to ensure website remains relevant to search engine algorithm changes.

Many changes may have to be made to the site itself to make it search engine friendly.

Changes may have to be made to the Web Host server(s).

Good SEO costs money… you get what you pay for.

Geographic targeting is more difficult than with PPC.

To the search engines, ‘content is king’… websites need to have good, unique content.

Content written to target keywords isn’t usually the most compelling or the easiest to read from a human perspective.

You may not know whether your SEO company is using ethical or unethical techniques… unless they are certified.

Competition is fierce and some companies use unethical practices to attain top rankings.

Un-doing what is already done can be difficult… especially if your site has already been penalized in the past.

Some keywords are just too competitive to be even worth going after… unless you have a large budget.

PROS & CONS: PAY PER CLICK(PPC)

PPC Pros:

Instant results… top rankings can be achieved in a matter of hours or days --not months.

Very little website changes required.

You can target as many keywords as you want.

Control… you can control/ change almost all aspects of the campaign.

Costs are only incurred when someone clicks on your ad.

Results can be tracked and measured precisely… improving ROI.

Permits geographic targeting… pick your country, region, state, city, or town.

Permits running of ads at different times… 24x7, morning, afternoon, evening, night.

Will direct users to the exact page on your site you want them to visit.

Allows for testing of landing pages and conversion rates.

Immediacy… get instantaneous, real-time feedback on changes/ adjustments.

Perfect for time limited offers such as holiday sales

Ideal way to ‘test’ whether online marketing is right for your business.

Must rank for a particular keyword? If you have the budget, you can rank for it.

PPC Cons:

Rankings disappear as soon as you stop paying.

Can be expensive in the long term.

Be wary of ‘bidding wars’… costs can quickly spiral out of control.

Susceptible to ‘click fraud’… people/ competitors clicking on your ads to drive up costs.

Keywords are initially reviewed and approved/ disapproved by the search engines.

The cost for keywords is going up.

Search engines don’t care how much you value a keyword… if it doesn’t generate enough traffic, they will disable it.

Your rankings can be affected by the number of ‘click-throughs’ your ad generates… so even though you ‘bid’ for the number two position, someone else may get that spot.

Rankings are viewed by people as being a form of ‘advertising’… some users consider this a plus, others a negative.

Most people prefer to click on‘natural/ organic’ (i.e. SEO) results rather than PPC ads.
